Geneva Elementary once again collected the most tab tops in Seminole County (464 lbs.) and our second grade students collected the most in our grade level competitions. The school will be presented with a gift card donation from Ronald McDonald himself at a later date. Thanks to PTA for sponsoring this worthwhile contest. We are so proud of our students for helping with this project. Keep collecting those tab tops over the summer and bring them to school next year! We are already going for #7!

Dividend of the Month...
Gail Harbeck
"Nana Gail" loves being here. You can find her either in Mrs. Norman's class or Mrs. Rothfuss' class helping out. She is a Walk mentor, reading mentor, Super Scientist volunteer, and even decorates the stage for plays. Her husband, John, has been seen around helping out also. Gail is a retired teacher, runs 3 miles every morning, loves to sew, read, bake, paint and playing with her grandsons. She can even speak French and play the violin! She is a wonderful asset to our campus! Congratulations Gail!
Spirit Fridays!
Wear any Geneva Elementary school shirt on Friday and show your school spirit. You could receive a PTA coupon from your teacher to use in our school store.
Business Partner Spotlight!
Geneva Elementary and CFE Federal Credit Union are excited to announce that the school bank is now open! "Money Monday" is the first Monday of every month. Students are encouraged to make deposits into their own savings account. There is a special CFE deposit box in our school front office. If you have any questions about this program, call Julie Clark at 407-247-3218 or Michael Langhorst, Branch Manager of the CFE Credit Union, Oviedo Branch.
Is your puppy pooped? Is kitty not purring? Well you need to see Dr. David Jourdenais at Geneva Oaks Animal Hospital! His office is located just down the road from the school and is opened 6 days a week. Dr. Jourdenais and his wife Janice are both veterinarians and their love of animals is shared with their 3 children, two of which are students here at Geneva.. You can find Dr. David and Dr. Janice at school often, volunteering in classrooms, helping during our teach-in days, and also on our SAC committee. Dr. Davis is extremely helpful during the springtime when our Kindergarten learns about the life cycle of chicken eggs. Thank you both for being such great business partners to Geneva Elementary School!
New School T-Shirts!
Our newly designed school shirts are here! We have children and adult sizes. There are short and long sleeve shirts and hooded sweatshirts. Prices range from $10 - $16. They are available during the school year in our school store, M-W-F mornings, and also at our FCAT family night and the Book Fair night.
Can You Help?
Geneva Elementary needs your help. They are running short on copy paper. Can you spare some? They are always sending notices to keep us informed of school happenings. And testing time takes a good deal of prep work. If you can, please send in a ream or two of paper to the front office. It would be much appreciated!
Gift quandry?
Wondering what little something to give your special teacher to show how much they are appreciated? We have provided for you a list of ideas and dates. Just take a look at the notebook besides the Dividend check-in computer in the school from office. Or log onto www.classconnection.org/genevapta and check who is your classroom room mom is.
SWISH!
SWISH is a voluntary dental program which gives students the opportunity to rinse with fluoride for 60 seconds once a week after lunch. Many of the homes in our area are on wells for their water source, therefore they do not have fluoride in their water at home. If you are interested in volunteering with the SWISH team, they set things up during our students lunch times on Tuesdays. Just call Sharon Kocken at 407-416-1536 to help.
February was Dental Awareness Month. Our own SCPS nurse, Lisa Johnson, and the Swish team joined forces and went to all classes from Pre-K to 1st discussing good dental hygiene. New toothbrushes were handed out to students, dental x-rays were shown, plaster teeth molds were displayed and proper brushing techniques were demonstrated.
Recycle!
We are now collecting empty juice/drink pouches (Capri Sun types-no boxes) and Frito-lay brand chip bags for a new recycling program. Geneva will receive $ for every pouch/bag we recycle. There are special trash cans in the lunchroom for this program. And don't forget our regular Tuesday recycling programs here at Geneva...newspapers, magazines, aluminum cans, ink cartridges, old cell phones and car batteries. Our Trash for Treasure collections will begin September 1st and is the first Tuesday of each month. Box Tops for Education proofs of purchases and Campbell's labels can be dropped off in the front office.
Good
Search!
What if Geneva earned money every time you searched the internet? Or how about a percentage of every purchase you made online? Well now it can! GoodSearch.com is a Yahoo-powered search engine that donates money to charities. Just go to www.goodsearch.com and be sure to enter Geneva Elementary as the charity you want to support!
Every Friday it is Popcorn day at Geneva. Our first popcorn Friday of the year will be Sept. 11! Volunteers are always needed to help Brandee Evans with this fun project. Proceeds from our 50¢ bags go to the teachers to use for their classrooms. Trash for Treasure is the first Tuesday of each month. Send in your newspapers, magazines, Campbell's labels, Box Tops for Education coupons, empty ink cartridges and aluminum cans. All proceeds will be used for our students and school.
School
Store!
Every Tuesday & Thursday mornings, Brianna Hays is in our school store waiting to help students shop for school items. There are pens, pencils, notebooks, folders, markers, etc. plus small gift items that students may purchase. Kids love to visit our store and thanks to Mrs. Hays for helping out! If you can volunteer a few hours a week, Mrs. Hays would love to have the extra help.
School Sweatshirts are now on sale for $15.00!
Every time you purchase something from the store, your name will be entered for a drawing. TEN prizes will be handed out during our Splash into Science night on March 29. One student will be chosen weekly to announce store specials on GNN.
